In his current role, Mayer is responsible for leading the brand direction and marketing strategy for Volkswagen of America. He leads the marketing communications teams responsible advertising, media, digital marketing, experiential marketing and social media.
Prior to joining Volkswagen, Mayer was the Director of Global Advertising and Sales Promotion for Chevrolet and was a key team member in leading a global consolidation of marketing strategy and partnerships for General Motors.
A creative thinker and strategic problem solver, Mayer has over 21 years of advertising and marketing expertise in both client-side and agency managerial roles in the packaged goods and automotive categories.
Mayer’s achievements have earned him a reputation as a "brand builder" best known for leading the marketing strategy during two automotive turnarounds: Hyundai Motors of America 1998 – 2003 (400% sales growth) and Subaru of America 2007s – 2010 (90% share growth). As a result, Mayer’s teams have been acknowledged with Effies (1999, 2005, 2011), Media Post’s/Ad Age’s Marketer of the Year (2008), and Kevin was named to Billboard Magazine's Power 100 in Music (2011).
Mayer previously held senior marketing communications positions at Subaru, Hyundai and Mitsubishi Motors where he launched notable new products, built brands and developed cutting edge social and digital experiences. Mayer began his career with agencies like Grey Advertising and Alcone Marketing working on a myriad of accounts such as Nestle Chocolate, The Gillette Company, Mitsubishi, and the California Lottery.
Kevin enjoys time with his wife and two young children, jogging, playing ice hockey, and surfing any chance he's on a coast. Kevin resides in Huntington Beach, CA.
