Jack The Building is a graphic excercise that, through the
use of irony, tries to play a healthy game within the
boundaries of architecture, design, art and market. Jack is
responding to a condition where artists have been made
content providers, using architectural space as an empty “lifeless” shell the only meaning of which relies in its content.
By abstracting, constructing, and marketing an image of the Jacques Building in West Lafayette, IN, branding can easily be done and products will just come along.
This project aims to remind the audience that they are still in a commercial enviroment, a mall-like situation, defined by taste, consumerism and spectacle. By introducing its identity-based products into the artistic arena and by reinventing itself/himself as a brand, Jack has to play in a way that is neither cynical nor happy.
