Ars Electronica, the organizer of “the world’s most time-honored media arts competition,” Prix Ars Electronica lists the collaborative practice of Dr. Shannon McMullen and Fabian Winkler as one of 73 artistic positions in an international overview of artist working at the intersection of Art and Science (sponsored by the European Digital Art and Science Network).

Fabian Winkler and Dr. Shannon McMullen exhibit their work 20/X at SEEING, Science Gallery Dublin, Ireland, June 24 - September 25, 2016. 20/X was created with the technical assistance of Dr. Eugenio Culurciello and Alfredo Canziani in the School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University.

Congratulations to ETB second year graduate student Boyd Smith on receiving a Purdue College of Liberal Arts PROMISE award (Promoting Research Opportunities to Maximize Innovation and Scholarly Excellence) for a project bringing together aspects of holographic representation, memory, robotics and Afrofuturism.

Congratulations to Dr. Shannon McMullen! Dr. McMullen was a Co-PI in an interdisciplinary team of 6 faculty, lead by Dr. Juan Wachs in Purdue’s School of Industrial Engineering to receive a $66,000 Laboratory and University Core Facility Research Equipment Program grant from Purdue’s Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships (OEVPRP).

On the invitation of Assistant Professor Min Kim Park, ETB faculty and alumni participate in Keimyung University’s White Gallery First International Exchange Exhibition in South Korea, December 4-18, 2015 with an opening reception on December 14, 2015. This exhibition features work of Dr. Shannon McMullen and Fabian Winkler, Alejandra Carrillo-Muñoz (MFA ’15), Oren Darling (MFA ’15) and Zhengqin Li (BS in Computer Science with a minor in ETB ’15).

ETB alumnus Yagiz Mungan (MFA ’13) has created an original score for MineOpticon, an ensemble performance project and choreographic intervention into the MineCraft world directed by DC Spensley (aka DanCoyote). Fabian Winkler’s essay “Regarding Terror: The German Autumn and Contemporary Art” is in the top ten of the most downloaded papers in the Art Practice section of Berkeley Electronic Press' (bepress) Digital Commons database of open access academic papers in October 2013.

3rd year ETB graduate student Yagiz Mungan received a commission from the Ars Virtua Artist-in-Residence Program to create a computer game-based musical instrument and to give a concert on their server.

3rd year ETB graduate student Yagiz Mungan has been awarded a residency in the Jack Straw Audio Production Studios along with a commission to produce a sound work for their new media gallery in Seattle, WA

ETB graduate student Paul McCormick and ETB alumnus John Cessna both have work included in the Sketchbook Project 2013 initiated by the Brooklyn Art Library, NY. National stops of this traveling exhibit include Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, iam8bit in Los Angeles and SXSW co-Lab Project Space in Austin, TX. Shannon McMullen is presenting National Security Garden at the Art of Research 2012 conference, Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture Helsinki, Finland, November 28-29, 2012. Her talk is accompanied by an exhibition of a documentation of the public artwork at Aalto University.

Shannon McMullen and Fabian Winkler participate in the Third Art and Science Internation Exhibition and Conference at the China Science & Technology Museum in Bejing, Nov. 1 - 30, 2012. They exhibit their collaborative work Waves Records.

ETB graduate student Paul McCormick's work was awarded a juror's selection and a liveBooks award at the Center for Fine Art Photography's exhibition Green. The work will be on display from Oct. 26 - Nov. 24, 2012 (reception on Nov. 2, 2012 6-9pm) at 400 North College Avenue, Fort Collins, CO.

Shannon McMullen is presenting National Security Garden at the Remaking Research conference at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC, Nov. 1-3, 2012. Remaking Research will showcase Featured Research Projects from more than 15 institutions engaged in creative research.

ETB alumni Aaron Nemec and Jordan Cleland have been selected to create a collaborative artwork for Installation Nation. The exhibition takes place on June 15th and 16th at Service Center, 3819 Lafayette Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46254.

The Board of Trustees of Purdue University has approved Fabian Winkler’s promotion to Associate Professor of Visual and Performing Arts, effective August 13, 2012. (See: faculty promotions for 2012).

"Digital Stimulation" a new work of first year ETB graduate student Paul McCormick has been included in the 2012 Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show. The exhibition runs from May 18 – July 21, 2012 at Indiana University's Grunwald Gallery, 1201 E 7th St, Bloomington, IN.

Shannon McMullen is giving a lecture - "Aesthetic Acts" - in the Purdue American Studies Spring Lecture Series. Friday, April 27, 2:00-3:00pm, Beering Hall 1222.

Shannon McMullen and Fabian Winkler are currently preparing for the installation of a large-scale public artwork, the National Security Garden, in front of the townhall of the city of Singen/Htwl. in Germany. This project, to be on display from late May – October 2012, will be accompanied by workshops and a symposium to actively involve the public.

Shannon McMullen is a participant in the 2012 CIC Digital Humanities Summit at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, April 19-20, 2012.

A cross-disciplinary discussion of data visualization involving Purdue faculty and students from engineering, science and liberal arts is the goal of a series of workshops organized by Shannon McMullen taking place from 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 13 through Oct. 4 at the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization, located off the tunnel between the Purdue Memorial Union and the Stewart Center.
