THTR 13300, Acting I
Want main character energy? Whether on stage, online, or in business meetings, learning the basics of acting can give you the confidence and tools to star in your own story. This class will focus on healthy use of the body and voice, breathing and relaxation methods, collaboration with peers, imagination, and creativity. You'll discover techniques to help you be seen, be heard, and address anxiety, while playing games and having fun.
Course description:
Beginning training and exercises in the basic elements of acting, including vocal and physical preparation, sensory awareness, releasing the imagination, and a basic understanding of acting an objective. Staging exercises and terminology are emphasized.

THTR 16100, Introduction to Costume Design and Technology
Learn how clothing tells a character's story and try your hand in our fully outfitted costume shop. Learn how clothing FITS a character.
Course description:
Introduction to analytical, artistic, and practical skills required when creating costumes for theatre. Beginning training elements and principles of design, rendering and presentation skills. Elementary instruction in costume construction, including hand and machine sewing, costume crafts, and basic patterning.

THTR 16200, Introduction to Light Design and Technology
Imagine how color tells a story and sets a mood on stage. ILLUINATE the mood of the story.
Course description:
A course that introduces the student to the basic equipment and design process of stage lighting design.
THTR 16300, Introduction to Sound Design and Technology
Learn how to create and manipulate soundscapes for performance. COMPOSE a sound-story for the stage.
Course description:
Introduction to theatre sound design and technology for general theatre students. Involvement in Department of Theatre and Dance production program.

THTR 16400, Introduction to Theatre Organization and Management
Work backstage and learn about the scale of a production through the eyes of a project manager. Learn how we MANAGE production.
Course description:
A theoretical study of performing arts management and backstage operations from audition through performance. Techniques of scheduling, production management, stage management, technical direction, house management, safety issues, and emergency procedures.

THTR 20100, Theatre Appreciation
A fun, interactive way to learn and experience everything about Theatre.
Course description:
Understanding and appreciation of the theatre's role in the modern world, dramatic structure and analysis, the actor, director, designer, and critic; attendance at current stage productions; class discussion of production elements.
THTR 27100, Interpreting the Play Script
This course is for students from theatre, dance, film, experience design, creative writing, and games design interested in interpreting and analyzing various methods of scripted material. The goal is to give you a well rounded set of tools for bringing written worlds to life on the stage, the screen, and in other innnovative formats.
Course description:
This course introduces several approaches to the creative interpretation of a play script, giving students experience in applying both analytical methods and sensory-intuitive lenses of interpretation.
