New Graduate Students

The department of Political Science welcomes our new graduate students.

Cadi Bien

Cadi earned her Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University where she studied political science and history. She worked in journalism, corporate communications, corporate philanthropy, and later as stay-at-home mom to her three, now adult children.  Active in community service, she continues to serve on various local boards. Particularly, in 2008, Cadi completed Purdue’s Transition to Teaching Program and taught secondary social studies at a school for at-risk students. She is pursuing her master’s degree at Purdue in American Politics. Social policy is her primary research interest, with an interest in studying religion and politics.

Shawn Carr

Shawn Carr was born in Bremerton, Washington and grew up in Racine Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Purdue University with minors in history and environmental policy. Shawn spent part of the summer of 2015 in Iceland learning how they use geothermal energy for electricity instead of oil. Pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations, Shawn’s research interests include studying environmental terrorism, human rights, and diplomacy.

David Dalenberg

David is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he majored in Latin American Studies. His research focuses on Latin American Politics. Experience in El Salvador and Costa Rica has led David to concentrate on the Central American region, while maintaining a special interest in Bolivian politics. His specific interests include security and agricultural policy in the Northern Triangle of Central America, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, and coordination dynamics of the opposition parties that oppose the government of Evo Morales and the MAS (Movement toward Socialism), party in Bolivia.

Erik Davis

Erik is pursuing his graduate degree in American Politics.  Originally from Northeast Ohio, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in political science from Heidelberg University, a Master of Public Administration Degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Akron.  He served as campaign manager for an Ohio State House election and as a Deputy Clerk of Court for several municipal courts in the Greater Cleveland area.  Erik’s research interests are in electoral politics, partisan and ideological identity, pluralism, labor unions and the politics of deindustrialization.  In his free time, he enjoys building furniture, collecting political memorabilia, and spending time with his two nieces and the rest of his family.

Johnathan Dobben

Johnathan Dobben grew up in Michigan City, Indiana.  He graduated from Purdue North Central with a Bachelors of Liberal Arts and minors in History and English.  Jonathan’s research interests include international politics and insurgencies.  His hobbies consist of studying history and hiking.

Anthony Hustedt

Anthony received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Purdue University and was subsequently commissioned as a Naval Officer. He served as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer onboard USS THACH and as the Anti-Terrorism Officer on board USS KIDD. His research interests include International Relations, Global Security Policies, and Homeland Defense.

Janel Jett

Janel graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and minors in International Relations and History.  She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in American Politics. Her research interests include political behavior, public opinion, and new media influences. Janel’s hobbies consist of reading, playing board games, and traveling, especially road trips.
