Lesson Plan for New Historicism

THROUGHOUT THIS GUIDE TO THEORY, I have attempted, when possible, to draw from my own experiences teaching students the various theoretical approaches. As in the sections on Gender & Sex, Psychoanalysis, and Marxism, one lesson plan is represented in the Applications section, where I provide a reading of two sonnets by Edmund Spenser. That application to Spenser was essayed when I was a teaching assistant working under a professor at the U of California, Santa Barbara (in 1992 while studying for my Ph.D.) and represents an exercise in learning theory at the undergraduate level. The link below will explain the idea behind the original class.
