Rot 2The Division of Dance in the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts offers courses in modern, ballet, jazz dance, world dance, movement fundamentals, dance appreciation, improvisation, composition, choreography, and dance performance. Students may choose a minor in modern dance or select courses to fulfill the aesthetic awareness core curriculum requirement of the College of Liberal Arts. Three full time faculty teach upper level courses and three half-time continuing lecturers teach elective core curriculum aesthetic awareness courses. The Division of Dance faculty are supported by one half-time secretary and accompanist. Classes are taught in two 2400 sq. ft. dance studios with sprung floors, one studio converts into 100 seat lab theatre.

The Division of Dance presents five to six concerts each academic year: two main stage concerts, two studio/lab concerts, one dance improvisation concert and once dance technology performance. Special areas of emphasis in the dance program are in dance improvisation as performance and use of computer technology as a component in choreography and performance. Through Interdisciplinary projects between dance and the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization faculty and students explore interactive real-time motion capture and virtual reality 3D immersive technology.
