Brighton Beach Memoirs

Amidst the canon of autobiographical playwriting, Brighton Beach Memoirs lives closer to Eugene O’Neill’s Ah Wilderness! than Tennessee Williams’ Glass Menagerie. Within the four walls of the Jerome home we are privy to adolescent fantasies, Depression-era hardships, teenage rebellion, and sibling rivalry. In the bigger picture, money is tight and a world war is looming. But in Neil Simon’s heartfelt masterpiece, there’s only one way to go: “Onwards and Upwards!”

Rating PG-13 (coming-of age-issues, mature themes, adolescent language, recommended for ages 14 and up)

Anna in the Tropics
