Study Strategies Class

Course Descriptions

GS 29500 - Effective Study Methods (8 weeks)
(Not open to students with credit in GS 29000) Freshman & Sophomore Only
This hybrid class intersperses on-line learning with classroom practice. Within 8 weeks, students implement the strategies that will make them more successful academically.

GS 29000 – 16 weeks
Choose between stand alone classes (2-3 credits) and linked classes in Elementary PSY (3 Cr), College Algebra (2 Cr) and Trig 1 and College Algebra (2 Cr)


Study Skills Seminar (3 credits)
(Not open to students with credit in GS 29500) Freshmen & Sophomores only.
Students discover how to manage time, take lecture notes and succeed on exams.  They will apply these strategies to a class of their choosing.   Includes a unit on vocabulary


Study Skills for Elem Psych (3 credits)    
Co-requisite PSY 12000. The current schedule of classes lists the co-requisite section(s) of PSY 12000.  Register now for both classes.
(Not open to students with credit in GS 29500)
Students transfer learning strategies to PSY 12000, a historically difficult class. They will do a better job of organizing notes, handling the heavy reading and taking PSY 12000 exams.


Academic Success Skills (2 Credits.)
(Not open to students with credit in GS 29500)  Freshmen and Sophomores only
In this 2 credit hour class, students apply academic success strategies such as note taking, critical reading and test taking skills to a novel and to one of their classes.  There is no vocabulary unit.
   

Study Skills for College Algebra (2 credits)
Co-requisite MA 15200 - Open to all students in MA 15200 – Register for both classes
 Students successfully apply problem solving, note taking and test taking skills to MA 15200. Students also overcome the anxieties and fears often associated with taking a math class. 


Algebra & Trig 1 Study Strategies (2 credits)

Co-requisite MA 15300 - Open to all students in MA 15300 – Register for both classes
Students successfully apply problem solving, note taking and test taking skills to MA 15300.  Students also overcome the anxieties and fears often associated with taking a math class.
