Dr. Stainback’s research centers on issues of social inequality including: its measurable extent, its causes and consequences, and the actions, behaviors and social processes that serve to undermine and sustain it. He is primarily interested in the central role organizations play in the allocation and maintenance of social stratification. From studies of aggregate patterns of social organization and inequality to studies emphasizing the importance of micro-politics, social psychology and cognitive bias processes, his viewpoint is decidedly organizational. His ongoing research agenda examines race, class, and gender inequalities across a variety of social contexts (workplaces, colleges) and at multiple levels of analysis (individuals, organizations, communities). His previous research has been published in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Public Health, Social Forces, American Behavioral Scientist and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences.
