Mission of the Doctor of Audiology
(Au.D.) Degree
It is the mission of SLHS through the sequences of
academic and clinical education leading to the Au.D.
Degree to:
· Recruit and retain excellent students who
are committed to the profession of audiology and the
delivery of high quality clinical services.
· Provide students with a solid foundation
in the science of audition and the skills to conduct
and promote evidence-based clinical practice.
· Develop audiologists who have the diagnostic
and rehabilitative clinical skills necessary to fulfill
the current scope of practice in a culturally sensitive
manner, across the life span in a wide variety of
clinical settings.
Au.D. students receive clinical education at the
Purdue University M.D. Steer Audiology Clinic, the Indiana University Medical Center through the
Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery,
educational audiology placements, and other audiology
clinics all within driving distance of the West Lafayette
campus. The combination of placements provides students
with the full range of current audiology scope of
practice experiences.
Applied research competencies in the Au.D. Program
are developed through didactic coursework, joint projects
with the research Ph.D. students, participation in
research and development (R&D) team projects with
the Purdue University "Engineering Projects in
Community Service (EPICS)" program, interaction
with hearing aid manufacturers and participation in
an applied research activity which culminates in a
written product.
