Jack Gandour is a linguist. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand (1964-66), taught at Niigata University in Japan as a Visiting Fulbright Lecturer (1968-69), and conducted postdoctoral research at Bell Laboratories (1976-77). As a Purdue faculty member, he has conducted research in Hong Kong (1980), Bangkok (1980, 1989), and Indiana University School of Medicine (1997-2005). He teaches courses in phonetics, linguistics, and neurolinguistics. His current research focuses on behavioral and electrophysiological studies of pitch processing in tone languages. He is a faculty member of the Purdue University Life Sciences (PULSe) program. He served as Interim Head of the department for two years (1993-1994), and Head for three years (1995-1998).
