There are many sites on the Web that offer information about publishing.

The Association of American University Presses (AAUP) offers catalogues for member presses and information and links related to publishing.

The University Copyright Office is a good source of advice on copyright and permissions. The director is Donna Ferullo, ferullo@purdue.edu, Stewart Center, Room 264A.

Access the Purdue Online Writing Lab for advice and information about writing. Explanations of both MLA and APA style are available here, on the pages, in printer friendly format, and in PDF format for download. The site also offers lists of reference works, style manuals, and other resources.

An online edition of Elements of Style by William Strunk, Jr., is available from the Bartleby Archive at Columbia.

The Modern Language Association Web site contains a page describing MLA style. The 7th edition of the MLA Handbook has just been published (summer 2010).

The Chicago Manual of Style, the preferred style for many publications, is now in its 16th edition. The 16th edition came out in the summer of 2010. At 1026 pages, it is a rich source of information on many topics. The University of Chicago answers questions about Chicago style as described in the Chicago Manual of Style (abbreviated CMOS). APA style is described on this page sponsored by the American Psychological Association. The latest version, the 6th edition (bright blue cover), is now available.

There are a number of sites that offer online dictionaries of varying quality. While most are not replacements for printed dictionaries, these do provide quick lookups.

OneLook Dictionaries contains up to 200 dictionaries. It is possible to search one, several, or all dictionaries at once for a single term.

The Real Academia Española offers two online Spanish dictionaries here.

Le Trésor de la Langue Française is online here.

The American Heritage Spanish/English dictionary is available here.

ARTFL French/English dictionary may be found here.

WordReference.com offers a number of online English/language dictionaries, including Italian, French, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Merriam-Webster's online dictionary can be accessed here.
