How does SHAN help?

The type of assistance SHAN provides is determined by the needs of the faculty, staff, or students contacting a network advisor. Occasionally, individuals indicate uncertainty about whether the behavior experienced constitutes sexual harassment.  In these situations, advisors listen to the concerned individuals, provide information and definitions, and help clarify possible responses. Network advisors also provide information about the University complaint-handling procedure, including copies of policies and procedures. In addition, SHAN can make referrals to offices that handle complaints formally or informally. However, most individuals who contact an advisor are seeking someone who will listen to their concerns in a supportive environment and assist them in identifying alternatives and formulating responses to the situation.
