The College of Liberal Arts maintains a centralized academic advising service located in Beering Hall, Room 1114.  The academic advising staff are professional advisors.  Each incoming student is assigned to an appropriate academic advisor who assists the student individually to select a program of study, choose electives, register for classes, explore career possibilities, and set personal, educational, and career goals.  Academic advisors also organize and participate in special college programs for students interested in the fine and liberal arts, social sciences, and education.  Two programs that are provided for exceptionally able students associated with the CLA Academic Advising Office are the Dean’s Scholars Program and the CLA Honors Program.  Three additional offices reporting to the associate dean in charge of student services are Liberal Arts Career Development, Student Recruitment, and Diversity Initiatives.  Each of these services is briefly discussed in this section.
