Internal Support for CLA Faculty Research
Many units of the University offer faculty support programs. See below for a partial list of the most established programs. Keep in mind that programs change frequently and it is not possible to list all of them.
Global Research Synergy Grants (Faculty)
Funded by the Office of the President, the goal of the “Global Research Synergy” initiative is to foster collaborative global research in one of the research synergy clusters of the College of Liberal Arts. With the goal of fostering synergistic scholarly excellence in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts in the College of Liberal Arts, the “Global Research Synergy Grants” program seeks to encourage faculty to aim for what the University’s strategic plan labels as “breakthrough advancements” that give Purdue a “national and international reputation” through global collaboration in one of the research synergy areas. It will provide financial support for three kinds of research projects: (a) research proposed in collaboration with an individual faculty member at an international institution; (b) collaborative projects among faculty in the liberal arts at Purdue partnering with faculty at an international institution; and (c) collaborative projects at the institutional level that involve the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University and an international institution.
The program is designed to increase the global reach, quality, innovativeness, and impact of research in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts in the College of Liberal Arts through funded support for breakthrough research projects in the areas broadly constituted within the research synergy clusters of the College. Specific emphasis will be given on projects that engage partnerships in strategic geographic areas identified by the University including Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia; however, research projects in other regions will also be considered. Those projects with the potential for extramural funding will be given preference, and funded projects will be expected to apply for extramural funds within six months of completion of the project.
Eligibility: All CLA tenured and tenure-track faculty who have plans for research projects in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts are eligible to apply. A faculty member may submit only one application per year.
Number of Awards: Budgeted at a total support of $50K per year from the Office of the President, the program will fund approximately two to six projects annually.
Deadline: September 21, 2012
