Purdue University College of Liberal Arts

Prospective Students

Valencia

Joining us from Dallas, Texas, Valencia is a double major in Political Science and African American Studies with a minor in English.  She has proven her dedication to service and leadership through a variety of roles on campus including being the current president of D.R.I.V.E.N. (Diversity Retention Initiative through Volunteering, Education and Networking), a member of the Liberal Arts Student Council, Liberal Arts Honors Program, Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honors Society), Caribbean Student Association, and Campus Outreach.  She is also a Resident Assistant for Purdue Village and Apartments.

A deep passion for matters related to diversity and culture has driven Valencia to pursue a career in international law.  She plans to attend law school after graduation.  “I believe that a liberal arts education will best prepare me for law school because I have learned critical thinking and writing skills, while I have grown in building relationships with communication skills.  It takes more than intellectual ability to influence the world; you must know how to relate to people.”
