Ashley

Ashley is from Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She is majoring in Visual Communications Design and minoring in Dance.  Ashley is a member of Purdue's AIGA chapter, a performer for the Purdue Contemporary Dance Company, and the designer of the 2011 Spring Dance Works poster.

After graduation, she would like to work in a metropolitan area for a magazine as a page layout editor or for a firm as a package designer.

How did you choose your major?  "I chose my major after realizing that my photography hobby and my intense interest in typography could be married into a single degree.  My fascination with the interaction between type and image made going into graphic design the obvious choice for me."

On the value of a Liberal Arts education:  "For me, the value of a liberal arts education lies in its versatility.  Not only can you focus on your respective field, but you get a wealth of knowledge from other areas that may not be directly related to your degree, but is undoubtedly knowledge that will benefit you on any given career path.  I love that as a design major, I'm not only taking typography and color theory courses, but I am able to explore other interests in psychology, foreign languages, history, and dance.  Liberal arts allows you to become an extremely well-rounded individual."
