Individual Engagement

The third part of the Community Engagement plan supports individual engagement and represents a special kind of service to the community. Colleagues in the College of Liberal Arts have in the recent past given public presentations both in Tippecanoe County and across the state of Indiana to groups requesting their expertise. This kind of outreach, which includes art exhibits, public performance, and public speaking, helps maintain the College of Liberal Arts as a valuable presence in the community.

Colleagues are encouraged to present their research findings and creative endeavors or share their expertise as much as is feasible. As a way of fostering future research and creative expression, the College will support three such activities for a faculty member per academic year, offering $500 (S&E) for the first presentation and $250 (S&E) for each subsequent presentation, regardless of where in the State of Indiana the activity takes place. These funds—up to $1,000 (S&E) per year per individual—will be available to support travel to collections, the acquisition of books and other research materials, travel to scholarly meetings, and other forms of professional development. If the invitation to speak does not include travel expenses, support for travel outside of Tippecanoe County will be provided by the College.

To qualify for this funding, the individual must submit a participation form (see below) to the Associate Dean before the event for approval of funding. All forms of public performance and public presentations qualify for support except engagements with a campus or student group and those with a local civic or religious group of which the individual is a member.
