BJ Kurle's primary research interests are the philosophy of language and current analytic metaphysics. Her secondary research interests include political theology and the intersection between language and social practice. She is currently writing about Paul Grice’s theory of nonnatural meaning, arguing that it is best understood in terms of his theory of rationality and reasoning, which then shows it to evade many well-known objections. She has also done much work with deception as a conversational practice, and is preparing a collection of papers on the socio-political side of American religious fundamentalism and its relationship both with its own founding & currently advocated principles and with contemporary society.
