Specialist in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Italian literature and comparative literature; Hermetic poetry (Campana, Ungaretti, Montale); modernism; futurism and the historical Avant-garde; modern and postmodern city in literature, Simmel, Benjamin, Tafuri, Cacciari; Triestine literature, essayistic narrative.

Author of Scipio Slataper.  Palermo: Palumbo 2007 (316 pages) and co-editor of a comprehensive anthology of late-twentieth-century Italian poetry: The Promised Land: Italian Poetry from 1975 to the present.  Los Angeles: Sun and Moon Press, 1999 (530 pages).  Author of articles on Futurism, Tarchetti, Svevo, Slataper and Michelstaedter.
