"The War in Iraq Today: Issues and Context" was held on January 22, 2007 in Stewart Center.  Purdue experts in political science, history, and natural resources spoke about the current issues surrounding the debate about United States foreign policy in Iraq during an on-campus panel discussion.  Panelists included Berenice Carroll, professor of Political Science, a member of the Committee on Peace Studies and the former director of the Women's Studies Program; Aaron Hoffman, assistant professor of Political Science and member of the Committee on Peace Studies; and Rabi Mohtar, a professor of Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.  Harry Targ, a professor in the Department of Political Science and coordinator of the Committee on Peace Studies served as moderator of the panel.  Co-sponsors included the Department of Political Science, the Program in American Studies, and the Lafayette Area Peace Coalition.  Panelists areas of expertise included U.S. foreign policy, conflict resolution, the war on terrorism, natural resources and policy and the Persian Gulf and Middle East.  Short presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session.


The Fall 2006 Video Series, "War and Peacemakers," included "Hearts and Minds," "U.S. Involvement in Torture: Legal, Historical and Security Issues," "Sir; No Sir," "Fidel: The Untold Story," and "You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train."


The Committee on Peace Studies in January 2003, organized a mini-conference on "The United States and the World Since 9/11."  The conference also co-sponsored a public lecture by Robert Fisk, Middle East Correspondent from The Independent (London).

Further, the Committee on Peace Studies organized a series entitled "Peace and Justice Videos" during the 2002-03 academic year.  The Peace Studies Program has sponsored or co-sponsored several other public events on issues relating to peace.
