Dr. Stacey Connaughton

Stacey Connaughton
Dr. Stacey L. Connaughton (Ph.D. The University of Texas at Austin), is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Purdue University. Her research examines identification and leadership in geographically distributed contexts, particularly as these issues relate to virtual teams/virtual organizations and political parties. Her published work has appeared in the Small Group Research, Journal of Communication, Management Communication Quarterly, Communication Studies, Communication Yearbook, JASIST, and her book, Inviting Latino Voters: Party Messages and Latino Party Identification, was published in 2005 by Routledge. Her research is funded by the National Science Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation, and the Russell Sage Foundation. Dr. Connaughton is a Senior Consortium Research Fellow at the U.S. Army Research Institute and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Leadership Institute at ICF International. Dr. Connaughton has facilitated workshops and written guidebooks for corporate, governmental, educational administrative, and student groups in the areas of virtual teams, leadership, team-building, and strategic planning in the United States, Canada, and China. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Organizational Communication Division of the International Communication Association (2007-2009). More Information

Cerise Glenn
Dr. Cerise Glenn is a Post-doctoral Research Associate in Organizational Communication. She has a doctorate in Intercultural Communication and a Graduate Certificate in International Affairs from Howard University. Cerise also has a Master’s of Science in Organizational Communication from North Carolina State University. Her research interests center on social constructions of difference (diversity), particularly identity negotiation and representations of underrepresented groups in organizational, intercultural/international, and mass-mediated contexts. She also enjoys conducting training and workshops related to her areas of expertise. Her recent accomplishments include working as the Managing Editor of Critical Half, the bi-annual journal for Women for Women International, as well as in the “G2 Scholar” partnership program with Georgetown University and Howard University.

Tyler Harrison
Dr. Harrison's primary area of research is organizational communication with a special interest in organizational conflict and the design of dispute resolution systems. His work focuses on how organizational and relational structure influence perceptions, enactments, and consequences of conflict for individuals and organizations. He is currently working on a funded project promoting non-living organ donation in the workplace which examines how different features of the organization influence health related campaigns. Lorraine Kisselburgh
Dr. Lorraine G. Kisselburgh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Purdue University. Her research interests lie at the intersections of organizations, technology, and difference. Her dissertation research uses social networking techniques to examine emerging technologies and the social structure of privacy in college student friendships. She is also currently conducting research on cross-cultural and gendered constructions of science, technology, and engineering work and careers; gender in competitive and collaborative in games-based learning environments; difference in organizational contexts; and the discursive construction of privacy. She has published in Management Communication Quarterly, Communication Studies, the Journal of Motor Behavior, and Acta Psychologica, and has an article forthcoming in Communication Yearbook.

Seungyoon Lee
Dr. Seungyoon Lee is joining the Department of Communication at Purdue University in Fall 2008 after earning her Ph. D. from the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California. Seungyoon’s research interest focuses on the evolution of communication, knowledge, and collaboration networks in and across organizations over time. Her current research is situated in the context of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development community, with particular focus on applying theories of social networks and sociocultural evolution to the dynamics of interorganizational networks. She is also interested in exploring the consequences of ICTs (e.g. mobile phones, Wi-Fi) on various outcomes (e.g. health practices in marginalized communities, social well-being, international digital divide) as they enhance social connectivity.

Beverly Davenport Sypher
Dr. Sypher's current focus on civil discourse grows out of long-standing interests in communicative choices and abilities and their role in creating healthy and satisfying workplaces. In addition to numerous research articles and book chapters, Sypher has published two volumes of Case Studies in Organizational Communication. Her own case studies on the introduction of new technology and the symbolic-expressive aspects of leadership are included in these volumes. Sypher's research also spans health and technology fields including funded evaluation research for health related entertainment-education in the Peruvian Amazon and social constructionist explanations of telehospice and telemedicine projects in the U.S. More Information

Howard Sypher
Howard Sypher conducts research in the area of communication and new technology. He has recently been involved in applied research focusing on software diffusion and E-health website usability. His currrent research on "digital identity" is funded by the National Science Foundation. He received the "Seed for Success" Award from Purdue in 2007.In March 2001 Sypher gave the keynote address (Communication, Technology and Change) at the Finland Virtual University Seminar at the University of Jyväskylä in Jyväskylä, Finland. Recently, he has lectured extensively in China and has been a guest on CCTV's Dialogue program in Beijing on three occasions. He has also lectured in Japan, Mexico, Australia, Europe, and South America.

Howard Sypher's research has appeared in Communication Monographs, Human Communication Research, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and the British Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology among others. His publications also include Communication Research Measures: A Sourcebook. He was the founding editor (with Ted Glasser of Stanford) of the Guilford Communication Series. He received the "Golden Anniversary Award for Excellence in Research" from the National Communication Association.
Sypher regularly teaches Com 435, Communication and Emerging Technologies at Purdue. Dr. Sypher serves on the advisory boards of several profit and not-for-profit organizations including the internal Advisory Boards for CERIAS and the Homeland Security Institute at Purdue. More Information
