Monica M. Trieu is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Asian American Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology, with an emphasis in Asian American Studies, from the University of California, Irvine.  Her research focuses on the intersection of race, ethnicity, and immigration—with a particular emphasis on children of immigrants. Her book, Identity Construction Among Chinese-Vietnamese Americans: Being, Becoming, and Belonging, examines the manner in which 1.5 and second-generation Chinese-Vietnamese Americans negotiate their ethnic and racial identities, the contextual factors that impact this negotiation, and the influence this process has on their modes of adaptation.  Her current project examines the experiences of 1.5 and second-generation Asian Americans who grew up in the Midwest.
