| The
Purdue University Sports Medicine Team provides medical care for
varsity athletics, intramural and club sports, the general student body,
and other members of the Purdue community. The athletic training
staff provides quality health care services through the physical
therapy clinic in the Student Health Center (PUSH) and the athletic
training facilities in Mackey Arena and the Recreational Sports

Dennis
Miller, ATC, PT

A certified member of the
National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Denny Miller joined the
Purdue athletic training staff in 1973 following completion of his postgraduate physical
therapy curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania, which followed
tours as assistant athletic trainer at United States Military Academy,
West Point (while on active duty) and Syracuse. He currently serves as Director of Sports Medicine and Director of the Physical Therapy Department in the Purdue Student Health Center.
In June of 1996, Miller completed
four years as president of the 20,000-member NATA. He also is a
former president of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association, chaired a NATA task force to develop and recommend
standards for health care for intercollegiate athletes. Miller was
inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in June of 2001. In 2002, Miller received the
Diamond “P” Award, presented annually by the John Purdue Club for distinguished service and commitment to Purdue athletics.
A native of Hawarden, Iowa,
Miller earned his B.S. in physical education from Iowa State in
1968, his M. S. in physical education from Syracuse in 1972 and
his physical therapy degree from the University of Pennsylvania
in 1973.
Denny and his wife, Linda,
have two daughters, Nicole and Natalie, who are Purdue graduates.

Larry
Leverenz, Ph.D., ATC

Dr. Larry Leverenz joined the Purdue staff in 1991. He served as athletic trainer for men's basketball from 1993-2006. He is now the athletic trainer for men's and women's tennis.
In addition to his duties
with the student-athletes, Dr. Leverenz holds the academic rank
of Clinical Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology,
and he serves as Director of Athletic Training
Education. He has served professionally as a member of the National
Athletic Trainers' Association Education Council and as president of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs. Currently, he is the Education Chair of the World Federation of Athletic Training/Therapy.
Dr. Leverenz previously worked
as assistant athletic trainer at the University of Iowa. Before
that he was the athletic training curriculum director/assistant
athletic trainer at Western Illinois for seven years, athletic trainer
at Macomb (Ill.) High School for five years and assistant athletic
trainer at the U.S. Air Force Academy for three years.
A native of Fithian, Ill.,
Dr. Leverenz received a B.S. in physical education and biology from
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, an M.S. in physical education from
Western Illinois and a Ph.D. in higher education administration
from the University of Iowa.

Alice Wilcoxson, ATC

Alice Wilcoxson rejoined the Purdue Athletic Training faculty and staff in August 2004 in a split appointment with intercollegiate athletics and the Department of Health and Kinesiology. Her primary responsibilities in athletics include providing athletic training coverage for volleyball and clinical instruction for students in the athletic training education program. Academically, she teaches several courses and oversees the clinical education component of the athletic training education program.
Alice served in a variety of roles within Purdue’s Intercollegiate Athletics, the Student Health Center Physical Therapy Department, and the Recreational Sports Center Athletic Training Room from 1992 – 2000. She left Purdue from 2000- 2004, to serve as the Program Director for the Athletic Training Education Program at Eastern Kentucky University.
A native of Albany, KY., Alice earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education / Athletic Training at Eastern Kentucky University, and her Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis. She is married to Purdue alumni Darrin Wilcoxson. Darrin and Alice reside in West Lafayette. |

Craig
Voll, ATC, PT

Craig's primary responsibilities
include working with football, wrestling, and men's and women's swimming and diving. In addition to his athletic training duties, Voll
is a physical therapist at the Purdue University Student Health
Center, as well as an instructor in the undergraduate athletic training
curriculum.
Prior to working at Purdue,
Voll spent three years as an intern athletic trainer with the Cleveland
Browns and one year with the Baltimore Ravens. He also was a graduate
assistant athletic trainer for two years at Eastern Michigan.
A native of Euclid, Ohio,
Voll earned his B. S. degree in sports medicine/athletic training
from Eastern Michigan in 1993. He received his master's in exercise
physiology from Eastern Michigan in 1996. Voll earned a second bachelor's
degree in physical therapy from Ohio State in 1998. Craig and, wife,
Corry live in West Lafayette and have two sons, Ryan and
Casey, and a daughter, Hannah. |

Jeff Stein joined the Purdue
Sports Medicine Staff in December of 2001 following completion of
his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University.
A native of LeRoy, Illinois, Jeff graduated with his Bachelor's
degree in Biology from Illinois Weslayan University and his Master's
degree from Illinois State University.
His primary sport responsibilities includes men's basketball and golf, as well
as providing care to students, faculty, and staff at the Purdue University
Student Health Center Physical Therapy Clinic. Jeff also helps teach
within the undergraduate athletic training curriculum. |

Jessica joined the staff
in July 2003 and has the primary responsibility of women's basketball
and track and field. Jessica received her Bachelor of Science in
Kinesiology from the University of Illinois in May 2000 with an
emphasis in Athletic Training. She then received her Doctor of Physical
Therapy Degree from Northwestern University in December 2002. She
was previously employed at Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis.

Kara joined the sports medicine staff in July 2006 after receiving her doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. Her primary responsibilities are to provide athletic training coverage for men’s/women’s track and field/cross country teams, and to provide physical therapy services for the students, faculty, and staff at Purdue University Student Health Center Physical Therapy Clinic. In addition, she teaches and mentors undergraduate athletic training students in the Department of Health and Kinesiology. Kara received her undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville with a B.S. in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Sports Medicine in 2003. She became a certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the NATA in 2005. She is also a member of the APTA and NSCA. She was a member of the U of L Women's Basketball team from 1998-2002 as well as a participant at the state and national level in softball.

Gretchen joined the Athletic Training staff at Purdue in July of 2007. Gretchen is serving as a Graduate Assistant with her primary responsibility being the Women's Softball Team. She will also support coverage of intercollegiate sports. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Pedagogy and Administration through the Health and Kinesiology Department. Gretchen is a native of Aurora, IL. She received her Bachelors Degree in 2007, majoring in Integrated Physiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Iowa. |

Nate VanRaden joined the Athletic Training staff at Purdue University in August of 2007. Nate serves as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with responsibilities including coverage of club and intramural events, and assisting with intercollegiate sports. Greg Rowdon, MD
Team Physician

Dr. Greg Rowdon joined the Purdue sports medicine staff as team physician in June of 2005. He served in a similar position with the Boilermakers during the 1999-2000 school year.
Most recently, Rowdon served as director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in Indianapolis
and was an Associate Clinical Professor within the Department of Medicine at
Indiana University Medical Center.
Rowdon has held positions on the medical staff of the National Institute for Fitness and Sports, National Football League Draft Physicals, Nike All American Academic Basketball Camp and the RCA Professional Tennis Tournament. He has served as the team physician for Cardinal Ritter and Speedway High Schools, multiple IHSAA State Championships, IUPUI, and the Indiana Firebirds Professional Arena Football team.
Rowdon is affiliated with the Sports Medicine CAQ Examination Committee, National Federation of High Schools Sports Advisory Committee, American College of Sports Medicine and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and he has served as chair of the Indiana State Medical Society Sports Medicine Commission.
Rowdon, a native of Decatur, Ind., received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering/biomedical engineering from Purdue and his medical degree from the University of Kansas. He and his wife, Christy, have two children, Ellie and Amy. |

Alayne Sundstrom , DO

Dr. Alayne Sundstrom joined the Purdue sports medicine staff as team physician in August of 2005.
Sundstrom previously worked for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Inc. in Marysville, Ohio, for five years. In addition, Sundstrom provided athletic medical coverage for Fairbanks High School, Dublin City Schools, Marysville Exempted Village Schools, the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the National City Triathlon.
Sundstrom is affiliated with the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Practicioners, American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, and Ohio Osteopathic Association.
A native of Kirksville, Missouri, Sundstrom received a B.S. degree in biology from Truman State University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. |

Donald Shelbourne, MD

Physician K. Donald
Shelbourne, MD is an orthopedic surgeon in Indianapolis. His
specialties include orthopaedic and arthroscopic surgery, knee ligament
reconstruction and rehabilitation. He also pioneered the contralateral
ACL reconstruction for torn anterior cruciate ligaments and developed
the accelerated ACL reconstruction rehabilitation protocol.
Dr. Shelbourne's practice
began in 1982 and includes clinic, surgery, therapy and a research
department. He has focused his research toward advancing the surgical
treatment and rehabilitation of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
injuries. He has performed more than 4000 ACL reconstructions and
closely monitors his patients' progress and results. This information
is shared through the publication of over 150 journal articles and
40 book chapters.
Through his ongoing research,
Dr. Shelbourne is able to provide up-to-date treatment and rehabilitation
methods for patients world-wide. In 1994, Dr. Shelbourne began performing
ACL reconstruction using the patellar tendon graft from the non-injured
(contralateral) knee. This advancement in treatment offers patients
the ability to rehabilitate their knee faster with more predictable
results. Over 2000 patients have undergone this procedure and most
athletes return to their desired sport by 3 months after surgery.

Dale
Snead, MD
Team Orthopedic
Consultant Dr. Snead
is an orthopaedic physician at Methodist Sports Medicine Center,
specializing in the disorders of the upper extremity, including
the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. He completed a one-year fellowship
at Methodist Sports Medicine Center and joined the clinic during
the summer of 1999.
He received his medical degree
in 1991 from Wright State University. Born in Gary, Indiana, Dr.
Snead completed one year of general surgery and one year of family
practice residency before completing his orthopaedic residency at
Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Snead is an orthopaedic
consultant to Manchester College and Purdue University and team
physician at Warren Central High School. For the past three seasons,
Dr. Snead was the orthopaedic consultant and team physician for
the Arena Football League's Indiana Firebirds.
Dr. Snead grew up in Dayton,
Ohio, attended Centerville High School and earned his undergraduate
degree from Miami (Ohio) University. |

Rachel joined the university in the fall
of 2001 with a split appointment between the Department of
Foods & Nutrition and the Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics. She is a registered dietitian and board certified
in sports dietetics. Her main duties with the athletic department
include one-on-one nutrition counseling and team sports nutrition
education for all Purdue varsity sports. A native of Culver,
Indiana, Clark earned her Bachelor's degree in Dietetics and
in Nutrition, Fitness & Health at Purdue, where she also competed
nationally and internationally with the Purdue Crew team. She
earned her Master's degree in Exercise and Sports Nutrition
at Texas Woman's University. |

Drew Kramer
Strength/Conditioning Coach
Drew Kramer joined the Purdue strength and conditioning staff in 2006. He works with the football, volleyball, soccer, and softball teams.
Before coming to Purdue, Kramer served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at The University of West Georgia from 2004 to 2006. From 2000 to 2003, Kramer worked at Auburn University as both a volunteer and graduate assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
A native of Huntsville, AL, Kramer earned a bachelor's degree (2000) from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was a football letterman for the Mocs as an offensive lineman. He earned two Master's degrees from Auburn University in exercise physiology (2002) and biomechanics (2003). Kramer is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the NSCA and a certified Club Coach by the USA Weightlifting Association.

Lathrop

Jim Lathrop came to Purdue in 1997 as strength and
conditioning coordinator. His responsibilities include developing
and implementing sport training programs for the football, baseball,
men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s
track and field, and wrestling teams.
Before coming to Purdue, Lathrop served as Wyoming’s
head strength and conditioning coach from 1993 to 1997. He was honored
as the Western Athletic Conference Strength and Conditioning Coordinator
Professional of the Year in 1996. Lathrop was at Georgia Tech from
1988 to 1992, as assistant coordinator from 1988 to 1990 and director
from 1990 to 1992. The Yellow Jackets claimed the 1990 national
championship by defeating Nebraska 45-21 in the Florida Citrus Bowl.
Lathrop had a brief stint at California in 1987.
A native of Omaha, Neb., Lathrop earned his bachelor’s
degree in physical education in 1983 from Northwest Missouri State,
where he was a football letterwinner as an offensive guard. He earned
his master’s degree in physical education from Missouri in
1986 while serving as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning
coach from 1983 to 1986. He later was a part-time assistant in 1986
and 1987.
Lathrop (born Aug. 13, 1961) and his wife, Elizabeth,
have a son, Alex, and a daughter, Katrin.

Greg
Lehman

Greg Lehman started as strength and
conditioning coordinator in 1983. He works primarily with men's basketball
and volleyball while assisting with all Olympic sports.
The 1980 Purdue graduate in education played three seasons as a
football lineman before he was medically disqualified from playing
during the 1979 season. He earned his master's in exercise physiology/biomechanics
from Purdue in 1983.
Lehman is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a
member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He
was the NSCA state director from 1985 to 1987.
A native of Lima, Ohio, Lehman was a state all-star football player
at Bath High School.

Thomson

At Purdue, Ron works with the football, baseball,
track & field teams. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and conditioning
coach certified by both the NSCA and Collegiate Strength Coaches
Association. He is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1977.
Before coming to Purdue, Ron served as Assistant
Strength Coach at Southern Methodist University 1981-85, where the
football team participated in 5 bowl games and ranked in the top
10 each year, along with the track & field team winning the
1983 Indoor and Outdoor National championship. In 1985, he served
as Assistant Strength Coach at the University of Wyoming, 1986 University
of Northern Colorado, as Head Strength Coach and Linebacker Coach,
1986-87 Head Strength Coach at Marshall University, where they played
for the 1987 1-AA National Championship. Then as Head Strength and
Conditioning Coach at Boise State University 1987-1994, where the
football, basketball, track & field teams won numerous conference
titles and participated in the National playoffs. He was a 1989
and 1991 Finalist for the NSCA National Collegiate Strength Coach
of the Year Award. From 1994-99, Ron served as Head Strength Coach,
Track Coach, and Assistant Football Coach at Auburn, AL high school.
He was the 1997 NSCA National High School Strength Coach of the
Year.
Ron, originally from California, resides with his
wife, Joanne, and son, Jon in West Lafayette. |
