C. Harold Veenker Health Education Scholarship Award

The C. Harold Veenker Scholarship is an endowed, four-year academic scholarship established by Professor C. Harold Veenker and his wife, Betty. The $1,000 scholarship is to be given to a first-year student studying health education in school-based settings (e.g., Health & Safety Teaching). Award may go to an upper-class student in the absence of a freshman recipient. Award recipients who maintain a 2.5 grade point average, may renew the scholarship in each of the next three years.

Dr. Veenker’s 27-year career at Purdue was marked by a dedication to the field of health education. During this time, Dr. Veenker, was known for his passion for the discipline, his hard-work toward developing and improving the health education curriculum at Purdue University, and his love for teaching and education. In granting the scholarship, Dr. Veenker stated:

“Education is very dear to my wife (a retired elementary school teacher) and me. I’ve seen many good students through the years who couldn’t afford to go to college. We decided we want to help worthy students have the opportunity to get an education.”

Thus, Dr. Veenker continues to influence the professional development of future teachers of health education.
