Graduate Programs
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention PhD
The doctoral program in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
provides students with an opportunity to study the complex relationships
between behavior, biomedical measures, environment and health policy
on the health status of individuals and populations. Faculty in
this area offer a wide range of expertise that include the basic
health and behavioral sciences, health policy, epidemiology and
evaluative methodologies. The program is designed to prepare students
for academic and research careers in health promotion. Students
utilize contemporary theories of health behavior to plan, implement
and evaluate innovative interventions designed to enhance the health
status of individuals throughout the life course. Current areas
of research have included investigations of risk-reducing behavioral
methodologies in children and the elderly, health policy development,
workplace interventions, and patient education.
