Graduate Concentration in Women and Gender Studies

The Concentration in Women and Gender Studies is offered jointly by the Women’s Studies Program and the Department of History for those students who wish to delve more deeply into the links between feminist concerns about inequalities, difference, and women’s empowerment, on the one hand, and the History Department’s geographic and thematic areas of study. Three WOST courses are required for the Concentration: Feminist Theory (WOST 680), Contemporary Issues in Feminist Scholarship (WOST 681) and Issues in Feminist Research and Methodology (WOST 682). Beyond the above three core courses, students may choose electives from HIST, according to their research interests. Requirements for master’s degree and Ph.D. students differ; for details, see the Women’s Studies website:  http://www.cla.purdue.edu/womens-studies/graduate/. Ph.D. students enrolled in the Concentration may apply for a teaching assistantship in the Women’s Studies Program.
