Study Abroad and Exchange
Programs
For history majors,
as for all students, study abroad is a great opportunity for academic
enhancement, cultural enrichment and personal growth. Purdue
University is committed to offering students numerous international
academic options for course credit, and making them affordable and
accessible. The Department of History shares this commitment. Study
abroad, especially with Purdue University Department of History faculty,
can make history come alive by bringing students to different historical
sites outside of the United States. It also broadens students’
understanding of different people and cultures in our ever-globalizing
environment.
The Department of
History has developed a
faculty/student exchange program with
Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg, France
and another with Beijing University in Beijing,
China. Additionally, history faculty consistently offer a
variety of study abroad course formats
– as a spring break component of a
regular semester history course, or as a
Maymester or summer course.
Professor John
Larson traveled with a group of students in
England during Maymester
2006 with HIST 450
- The English Landscape: Integrating History,
Horticulture & Landscape Architecture.
Study Abroad courses
taking students to Germany & Greece over spring break were quite
successful. Professors Gordon Mork
and Gordon Young taught
HIST 102I/H,
104I/H, and 590M during spring semester 2007. These courses included a required
study-tour to Munich and Greece over
spring break.
As programs are established and finalized, links to the
detailed information will be posted on this page.
