Purdue Studies in Romance
Literatures welcomes completed manuscripts on topics of literary,
theoretical, or philological importance that make a significant contribution
to scholarship in French, Italian, Luso-Brazilian, Spanish, and Spanish
American literatures.
Preliminary inquiry
Authors interested in publishing with PSRL should first send a paper
proposal describing their work. Electronic proposals are discouraged.
Proposals should include a short description of the study, a table
of contents, and a brief CV. The editors will examine the materials
and, if interested, request the manuscript.
Preparation of the manuscript
Manuscripts should be 75,000–90,000 words (250–300 pages)
in length. The entire manuscript (text, quotes, notes, and bibliography)
must be double spaced. The text may be in English, French, or Spanish.
Quotations should be in the original language. Translations should
be provided for quotations in any languages other than those mentioned.
Please inquire for details. Dissertations should be rigorously revised
before submission to meet the definition of a book. The manuscript
must conform to the latest edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers
of Research Papers (New York: MLA), following the parenthetical
style of documentation. So that reviewers may receive an anonymous
manuscript, include two title pages, one with the author’s name,
the other without. The author’s name must not appear in the
page headings or anywhere in the manuscript. References to the author
in text and notes must be in the third person. However, it is the
author’s responsibility to provide an anonymous copy; the manuscript
will be sent out as it is received.
Materials required for submission
Authors are required to submit (1) two clean paper copies of the manuscript,
unbound and printed on one side only; (2) a signed statement that
Purdue Studies in Romance Literatures is and will remain the sole
reviewing agency while it is considering the work for publication;
and (3) a check made out to "Purdue University" for the postage to
return one copy of the manuscript. Time from proposal to contract
could be as much as twelve months or more.
Additional requirements
If a manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be asked
for a subvention of $1500 to help defray some of the production expenses.
At that time we also require an electronic copy of the manuscript.
If possible, prepare your files in Microsoft Word for the Mac format.
Files in PC format are also acceptable. Word Perfect files should
be saved in Microsoft Word format.
