French 101-103 are beginning level courses designed to develop language proficiency in French. The goals of the courses are to help students progress toward competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as toward knowledge of French and Francophone cultures. The courses focus on active language use. Students will interact meaningfully with classmates and develop communicative strategies. By the end of these courses, with reasonable effort, students will be able to handle routine situations of a concrete personal and social nature which involve how to supply biographical information about oneself and others; how to get necessary information by asking questions about people and things; how to get through a simple survival situation such as ordering food and beverages; and how to create with the language by combining learned elements.
