Multimedia in French 201-202

Students enrolled in French 201 and 202 have interactive multimedia afor use at home.

FR 201: Students are engaged in a variety of activities which includes the use of the Paroles Interactive Multimedia CD-ROM( Magnan, Berg, Martin-Berg & Ozzello, 2002), the Logiciel Situationnel Interactif CD-ROM (Grace& Fukada, 2000) specifically designed to complement the Paroles student textbook, and the Paroles audio CD ( Magnan, Berg, Martin-Berg & Ozzello, 2002). Each unit of the CD-ROMs reflects material covered in the textbook, in the context of authentic footage of real life discussions and situations conducted throughout France. They provide video clips, images, recordings, and activities that add life to the entire program. It affords the learner easy access to grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening comprehension, connectivity to the Web, and electronic journal writing activities.Laboratory sessions are centered on improving students' writing skills through cooperative writing activities. Compositions are based on readings in the course text complemented by the structures and functions practiced during class activities.

Sample unit lessons include: La santé, les mémoirs et les souvenirs, la mode et les vêtements, la qualité de vie.

FR 202: Students' study of the language and Francophone cultures is enhanced through a number of activities outside the classroom. The Sur le vif Student Audio CDs (Tufts & Jarausch, 2001) allow students to practice listening comprehension and pronunciation skills, while the Sur le vif Expanded Internet Language Center offers opportunities for grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary practice as well as guided explorations of the Internet.

Unit lessons include: Les études, les jeunes, les immigrés, les modes de transport, les voyages, le cinéma et la télévision.
