The recent NAVSA meeting exploited to the fullest Yale University's remarkable collections in Victorian art and material culture, and was wide-ranging in its disciplinary offerings. In addition to special Material Study sessions, and a self-conscious organization around conversations, the conference featured concerts, a magic lantern, and other memorable moments. {More}

According to custom, Victorian Studies will have a special issue devoted to highlights of the recent conference. Because the conference was in November last year, the special issue has been pushed back to issue 51.3 (Spring 2009), which will appear in the late summer.

While 2009 mercifully lacks a US presidential election, the winter always brings NAVSA elections. This year, vote in three advisory board categories: Canadian, American, and Art History. {More}

We are also pleased to announce the winners of NAVSA's two prizes: The Donald Gray Prize for best essay in Victorian studies, and the graduate student prize for papers presented at the most recent conference. {More}

While we carry on the usual work of the organization, we also mourn the loss of Sally Ledger, whose recent death shocked Victorianists around the world. Regenia Gagnier has contributed a lovely tribute to this energetic and gifted scholar. {More}

This year's conference, a joint meeting at Cambridge with the British Association for Victorian Studies, promises to be spectacular. Also, start making plans now for NAVSA conferences through 2014! {More}

NAVSA is once again co-sponsoring panels at the annual meeting of the Association of Canadian College and University Teachers (ACCUTE), from May 23-26, 2009. This year's panel theme? Victorian Health. {More}
