Graduate Certificate in ESL

ESL4Degree Offered: Graduate certificate in ESL.

Length of Program: 5 years maximum. Students may be full-time or part-time. Beginning in Fall semester is recommended.

Program Requirements: 15 hours of coursework. Students must attain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of B for any course applied to the certificate.

Courses Required: Introduction to Linguistics; ESL Theory; ESL Curriculum Design; Sociolinguistics; One 60000-level ESL course.

Full-Time Staff: Dwight Atkinson, Margie Berns, April Ginther, Tony Silva (Director).

Admission Requirements: The University requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a minimum GPA of 3.0; and for applicants whose native language is not English, TOEFL iBT scores are also required.

General: Degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students are eligible for the program. Students may complete the certificate independently of their field of study and need not be registered in an MA or PhD program.
