David Blakesley is Professor of English at Purdue University where he also serves as the Director of the Professional Writing Program. His research interests are in rhetorical theory, visual rhetoric, multimedia writing, electronic publication, and film. He earned his PhD from the University of Southern California in 1990 in Rhetoric, Linguistics, and Literature. He is also the founder and CEO of Parlor Press, a scholarly publishing company launched in 2002.
He has authored, co-authored, or edited five books: The Elements of Dramatism (Longman, 2002), The Terministic Screen: Rhetorical Perspectives on Film (SIUP, 2003, 2007), Late Poems, 1968-1993 by Kenneth Burke (University of South Carolina Press, 2005), and Writing: A Manual for the Digital Age (Comprehensive and Brief editions; formerly The Thomson Handbook; Cengage, 2008/2009). His articles have appeared in WPA: Writing Program Administration, JAC: A Journal of Composition Theory, The Writing Instructor, Kairos, Enculturation, and numerous other journals and anthologies.
He is the former Web Developer and Production Editor for the Council of Writing Program Administrators. He is also a consulting editor for KB Journal and The Writing Instructor and the founder and moderator of the Kenneth Burke Discussion List.. He was also the Program Chair for Computers and Writing 2003 and now serves as the Co-Chair for Computers and Writing 2010 ("Virtual Worlds"), to be hosted by Professional Writing Program and ICaP at Purdue in May, 2010. In 2009, he received the Computers and Composition Charles Moran Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Field.
