Undergraduate

The major in Comparative Literature offers undergraduates the opportunity to study literatures in two languages and gain a working knowledge of a third, while exposing them to a range of world literatures. The three introductory courses, Introduction to Comparative Literature, World Literature: From the Beginning to 1700 A.D., and World Literature: 1700 to the Present, give students a base upon which to build their studies. Undergraduates gain the ability to work across disciplines, and also focus on the literature of a particular language or region. This approach gives students the background - suitable for many different careers - in dealing with a variety of intellectual challenges, working with a number of languages and cultures.
