C. Richard Petticrew Forum
The Petticrew Forum is a student organization with the mission of enhancing the public speaking abilities of Purdue students. We pursue this mission by sponsoring the intercollegiate speech team of Purdue University and by sponsoring on-campus workshops and speaking competitions.
The Petticrew Forum participates in intercollegiate public speaking events in the National Forensics Association. Events in the N.F.A. include informative and persuasive speaking, impromptu and extemporaneous speaking, prose and poetry readings, dramatic duo, rhetorical criticism, and after dinner speaking. The team competes at tournaments hosted by other schools in the N.F.A., including, for example, Ohio State University, Indiana University, and Ball State University. Purdue also hosts its own annual tournament in the fall. The Petticrew Forum has consistently qualified participants for the N.F.A. national tournament in the spring.
While the intercollegiate competitions are one part of the Forum, Petticrew also sponsors on-campus public speaking events in order to give all Purdue students opportunities to develop communication skills. Petticrew sponsors informative and persuasive speaking contests. We also sponsor job interview workshops and performance nights.
Any student of Purdue University is eligible to join the Petticrew Forum. Eligibility to participate in intercollegiate competitions is limited to undergraduates. No prior competitive speaking experience is required.
