Welcome

From the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Jane Gibson Natt, Assistant Professor

Welcome to our Web site. Our outstanding undergraduate program in communication offers a wide variety of courses and educational opportunities. If after going through the material you would like more information, please contact us.

We believe our undergraduate program in communication is the best in the world. We have a great faculty, a great cadre of graduate students to help teach our courses, and an extensive and altogether up-to-date curriculum other schools and programs emulate and cite as a model of excellence. Our undergraduate students are among the best and the brightest at Purdue. Our instructional program is designed to produce graduates with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to compete effectively for their first jobs, as well as for successes in later life.

Our undergraduate curriculum includes courses providing a thorough introduction to the historical, philosophical, and theoretical foundation upon which all communication activity is based. We offer a major in general communication and concentrations in mass communication, organizational communication, interpersonal communication, and public relations and rhetorical advocacy. Students also may take courses in the exciting and expanding field of health communication. Our students produce their own video news magazine, Fast Track, and our department's alumni newsletter, The Communicator, and work with existing nonprofit organizations in our community to produce public relations and advertising campaigns and solve organizational issues.

We have a tremendous Undergraduate Advising Program wherein students secure assistance with course planning, career development, and a variety of other student services. We have a number of undergraduate student organizations with ties to professional and scholarly communication associations. We also have a great number of domestic and international internships available and opportunities to study abroad in over 100 countries, including our popular summer internship program in London, England.

Our department is absolutely and totally committed to high-quality undergraduate instruction in all ways - through our faculty and curriculum endeavors, through our undergraduate advising efforts and through our student organizations and informal contact opportunities. We welcome undergraduate students and honor them as an integral part of our university and professional mission. Please consider joining us!
