R. Wayne Pace, Ph.D., while recovering from slipping on a piece of ice in December, along with a colleague, published his 30th book, "The Gentle Juggernaut."

1962
Phillip K. Tompkins
, Ph.D., has a new book coming out. It will be released by Paradigm Publishers, Boulder, Colo. The title is "Who is My Neighbor? Communicating and Organizing to End Homelessness."

1967
Harry Sharp Jr., M.A., (B.A. 1961) retired to part-time teaching in 2000 and fully retired in 2005. Briefly in 2007 he returned to teaching. He has been a 50-year member of Western States Communication Association and recently participated in their program in Phoenix.

1974
Mark Sloan, B.A., retired July 1, 2008, from AT&T as head of High Capacity Special Services Indiana after a 30-year career with the telecommunications company. For the past year he has been developing a line of custom guitars and is in the process of launching a new company, Sloan Guitar Works. He is also working on a book and DVD for musicians who want to repair, customize or build their own guitars.

Nancy Peterson, B.A., joined Stanford University School of Engineering as Director of External Relations. Her job focuses on communication, alumni relations, events, stewardship and some fundraising.

1975
Kenneth C. Paulin, Ph.D., had a program accepted for presentation at the annual International Listening Association Conference in Milwaukee, WI. The title of the program is "LIsten to the SILENCE."

1977
Larry A. Temple, B.A., currently mobilized in support of the Indiana Army National Guard as a member of the 119th Agriculture Development Team. This team supports the improvement of agriculture in the country of Afghanistan in hopes of improving the agricultural economy to enable self-sustainment for their families in wheat, maize, orchards, and other commodities.

Michelle Courtney Reedy, B.A., currently employed at Principal-Mutual Funds Marketing Edward Jones in St. Louis.

1978
Randall S. Sipe, B.S., in June 2008 he joined Main1Media in Indianapolis as a media consultant.

Kathie Turner, Ph.D., serves as chair of the Communication Centers section of NCA and heads external review teams for departments and centers.

1979
D. Mark Robertson, B.A., left American College of Sports Medicine after almost 25 years as the Assistant Executive Vice President and group publisher. This past fall he became CEO for a publishing firm with two divisions: Coaches Choice and Healthy Learning.

1980
Mark D. VonFossen, B.A., recently accepted a new position as an Account Executive in Business Solutions with Bright House Networks in Indianapolis.

Bill Ennis, B.A., independent television writer, producer, director recently completed his seventh year as Producer of Ms. Fitness USA and Ms. Fitness World television shows that air on Fox SportsNet. Ennis also recently completed a series of video shorts, called "Meet the Artist," for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation's Web site, as well as a series of television commercials for Soka University in Aliso Viejo, Calif.

Scott Ross, B.A., survived three rounds of layoffs at his parent company Source Interlink. He is still Associate Editor of Corvette Fever and Mopar Muscle magazines and is contributing more content to both titles' Web sites.

Cheri Lynn Fuchs, B.A., is a Wholesale Accout Executive for MetLife Home Loans in Indianapolis.

1982
Donna Samuels Rogers, B.A., and her husband, Dave, have a daughter at Purdue, Brookley, who is a freshman on the soccer team. Brookley has come to Purdue with a natural "love" of Purdue inherited from her family, but since become "passionate" for all that Purdue stands for.

Lynette Lucker, B.A., started a new job as Case Assistant for TRA/TAA services.

1983
David Goad,
B.A., is a member of the enterprise marketing team for Cisco WebEx, and manages reference customer cultivation, online event production, and C-level relationship marketing programs. He won 2nd place at the Regional Level of the Annual Toastmasters International Speech Competition in June 2008, in Seattle, WA. He and his wife, Carol, live in Tracy, CA, with their daughter Amanda. Their son Evan is a freshman at UC Santa Barbara.

Deborah New, B.A., joined Action for Healthy Kids as director of communication. She will help revitalize the organization's national outreach and expand awareness of its efforts to improve children's health through improved nutrition and physical activity.

1985
Patricia Geist-Martin, Ph.D., was selected as 2008 Outstanding Mentor in Master's Education by the Master's Education Section of the National Communication Association. In the last year she has had five new publications, including three articles in Health Communication, Communication & Medicine, and Communication Monographs, a chapter in "Intercultural Communication," and a section in "Emerging perspectives in health communication: Meaning, culture, and power."

Johnny O'Connor, B.A., recently selected to the Government Affairs Committee of the Medical Group Management Association. After the inauguration he met with a senior staff member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on health reform issues and attended a briefing on health policy issues. O'Connor's son, Liam, turned 2 in November. Also, O'Connor's Ultimate Frisbee team won the 2008 National Championship title in October.

Chris Vosmeier, B.A., recently joined Raymond James & Associates in Fort Wayne as First Vice President of Investments.

Bob Schultz, B.A., after spending the last 10 years as the spokesperson for Indianapolis for all things tourism with the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, he has joined the PR/Advertising agency of Borshoff in Indianapolis as its Senior Account Director. His responsibilites focus on building the agency's tourism, hospitality, and entertainment communications accounts while working with key clients in the pharmaceutical and non-profit association industries.

1987
Stephanie Carlson Curtis, B.A., established Busy Bee Publications, LLC in 2007 providing professional writing and photography services for "busy" clients. After careers in broadcasting, public relations and politics, she chose to become a full-time mom -- raising four children and a husband. Currently, she contributes to her local newspaper, various publications; writes press releases, articles, commercials; and produces Web site content for clients.

1988
Michael Taylor. B.A., in December 2008 accepted a position as Quality Analyst and lead Technical Writer for Brightpoint, Plainfield. He oversees technical writing for BPNA IT department.

Ria Davidson, B.A., is celebrating the seventh successful year of his company, Davidson Communications & External Relations, which has become a "one-stop shop" for utilizing experienced and accomplished professionals in the fields of communications, public relations and marketing.

Dudley B. Turner, Ph.D., was named interim dean of the new College of Creative and Professional Arts at the University of Akron.

1989
Paul Sonnefeldt, B.A., over the past year has completed a total rewrite and edit of product copy and general consumer information for the AIR-O-SWISS Web site, which is a division of Swiss-based PLASTON. In the end of 2008, he assisted the KREZ Group of Chicago by writing for two of its corporate divisions, creating the content slated to appear on the company's new corporate Web site launching in 2009.

1990
Chuck Bergman, B.S., took a position as Director of Marketing and Public Relations at The Centre, P.C., a comprehensive plastic surgery center in Elkhart, IN.

Molly Gillen, B.S., is the Vice President of Business Development for The Hagerman Group, a 100-year-old construction firm. She lives in Indianapolis and has two sons ages 8 and 10.

1992
Dave Librizzi, B.A., his company distributes Purdue's officially licensed coffee called Boiler Blend.

Katie McCaskey, B.A., has opened a neighborhood grocery store in Staunton, Virginia, which supports local agriculture and local foods. Opening the grocery store marked her departure from working as a motion graphics designer, but she still manages to design in her free time.

Carl A. Barnowski, B.A., establishing a second office for Creative Retirement Concepts Inc. The financial advisory firm, established in 1996, opened its Indianapolis location in January.

Jennifer A. Welsh, B.A., recently completed her M.A. in English at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. She is the Producing Director of the Black Dahlia Theatre and is a story editor for MTV reality programming.

1993
Dan Miller, B.A., earned the professional certification of Certified Clinical Data Manager. He works as Lead Data Manager for Takeda Global Research and Development in Lake Forest, Ill.

1996
Angi Hatfield Pechman, B.A., and her husband, Matt, welcomed their third child on Sept. 22. Mary Leahy is adored by her big brothers William Richard (3) and Max Rockne (2).

Kelly (Kuhlenschmidt) Higdon, B.A., in May will be marking 10 years as the Morning Show co-host at WDJX radio in Louisville. She is also expecting her first child in August.

Katherine Dorsett, M.A., has been working as a news producer at Cnn.com since August 2007. Since starting at CNN she has served in numerous roles and prior to that worked in a local TV newsroom from 1994-2000.

Lorin Basden Arnold, Ph.D. (M.A. 1991, B.A., 1988) has been named interim dean of Rowan University's College of Communication. A nationally recognized expert in the field of family communication, Arnold, chair of the college's Communication Studies department, will serve as dean of the college during a period of transition.

1997
Alberto Henriquez, B.A., became news producer for KVEA, the L.A. affiliate of Spanish TV Network, Telemundo. He also became a member of the Writers Guild of America.

1998
Suzanne Turpin Upton, B.A., owns Suzanne Upton Photography, LLC, is the mother of three boys, and recently moved to Michigan from Canada.

Alumni Notes

Azura (Domschke) Collier, is a master's degree candidate at Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass., where she also works as a Public Relations/ Publications Specialist. She is currently working on her thesis. Her research focuses on Generation X and Generation Y and how these groups use social media sites, texting, e-mail and other electronic communication methods to cultivate and maintain the relationships in their lives. She and her husband, Ed, live in Lancaster, Mass.

Philip Goetz, B.A., began working for Texas Media Systems in April 2006. In May 2007 he received his M.A. in Radio Television and Film, and was married last October.

2001
Ed Land, B.A., happily married Jennifer Ham in July 2005. In February 2007 they had a son, Peyton, who recently turned 2. Land works for Old National Bank.

Jenny (Snellenbarger) Parker, B.A., will be starting the full-time MBA program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall.

Shannon (Morgan) Jermal, B.A., received her master's in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University in May 2008 and in June married Thomas Jermal. She is currently the Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

2002
Shelly L. Robinson, M.A. (B.A. 1993), is serving as President of the Career Development Professionals of Indiana.

Noelani Aker McIntosh, B.A., married Drew McIntosh.

Ross Kinsey, B.A., welcomed his second daughter on Oct. 13, Kaelyn Alayne Kinsey, and was promoted to Weekend Sports Anchor at CBS station WANE-TV in Fort Wayne.

Kate Bousum
Kate (Sutfin) Bousum, B.A., married Sam Bousum in September 2008 and just began a new job as Director of Events, handling all special events, third-party events and annual giving, for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Oak Brook, Ill. She also chairs the suburban committee of the Purdue Chicago Club.

Erin Vaughan, B.A., lives in Fort Wayne and works for a top radio station, Majic 95.1 as an Account Executive. Responsibilites include writing copy, recruiting new accounts, and managing a list of accounts that continues to grow.

A.J. Wesseler, B.A., left Kimberly-Clark and joined Nestle USA as the 2nd Shift HR Generalist at the Solon, Ohio, Prepared Foods Factory.

Katie Greenan, B.A., works as a Marketing Manager for the Association of Corporate Travel Executives in Alexandria, VA. She also teaches journalism part time at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Arlington, VA.

Jana Scherle, B.A., works as the Advancement Coordinator at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, raising money and planning events for their Tuition Assistance Program. She also works as their middle school cheerleading coach.

Heather Stafford, B.A., welcomed her first child, a son, on Jan. 28. Along with her husband, Stafford resides in Fishers and works in Project Management for a telecom company.

Megan Nail, B.A., is at one of the nation's largest accounting firms, Clifton Gunderson LLP as a Senior Human Resources Manager.

2003
Victoria Johnson, B.S., after working as an associate editor for two years at MacDonald Advertising Services in Lafayette, she relocated to Orange County, Calif., where she is a marketing writer for a California-based engineering firm. Johnson also serves as a freelance production assistant and writer, working with various television networks including TNT, Lifetime TV, MTV, BET, BET Jazz, and The WORD Network.

Corrie (Whitesel) Bennett, B.A., recently accepted a position with the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce as a Communication Manager.

Tara Holley Juntunen, B.A., is a sales representative for the Edward Don Co.

Reem Maroun, B.A., currently employed at the Royal Hashemite Court in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Lindsay Roberts, B.A., in February 2008 accepted a new job on campus with the Conference Division as a Conference Coordinator.

Casey Hurst, B.A., accepted the position of Spiritual Care Coordinator/Chaplain for AseraCare Hospice in Harrisburg, PA.

Allison Cole, B.A., is engaged to Nathan Kased and plans to get married in September 2009. Currently she is working as an associate at the Law Offices of Greco, Traficante, Schultz & Brick in San Diego, CA.

Curt Gilstrap, Ph.D., completed his tenure as Director of Debate at Drury University, having coached the 2008 NFA and LDOC National LD champion. During his tenure he has coached more than three dozen state and national titles. Recently he was appointed Directer of Graduate Program in Communication Studies at Drury University.

Mattox family
Amy (McDaniel) Mattox, M.S., in April 2008, along with her husband, welcomed their first daughter, Carly Elizabeth Mattox. Last August she was promoted to Director of Graduate Admissions and Marketing at Huntington University.

Vickie Aiello, B.A., had a baby girl, Gianna Marie, on Jan. 5.

2004
Samantha Sok, B.A., is a Senior Account Executive at the San Francisco office of Schwartz Communications.

Katerina Tsetsura, Ph.D., became Vice-Chair Elect of the Public Relations Division of NCA in 2008.

Jewanna Carver, B.A., accepted a position as Project Assistant on the Donor Relations team at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Elizabeth Thompson, B.A., got engaged on November 1 right after Purdue beat Michigan to Matthew Duncan. They are planning their wedding for August 2009.

2005
Megan Hampton, B.A., is engaged to Aric and plans to get married at the University Church on campus. She met her fiance at Purdue in 2003.

Benjamin Todd, B.A., created a feature-length film called "Last Chance." The movie premiered at Purdue University's Loeb Hall, and is now available for distribution through Celebrity Video Distribution. He has since moved to Chattanooga, TN, to turn "Last Chance" into a trilogy.

Amanda Smith Bauer, B.A., married Ryan Bauer, an Industrial Engineer graduate, last November.

2006

Sesselmann
Lauren Sesselmann, B.A., was selected during the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer draft. Lauren was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in the seventh round, the 44th overall selection. Sesselmann helped Purdue reach the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2003. She is Purdue's career leader in goals and assists.


Steve Schlenk, B.S., has been appointed to serve as the Director of Operations with Purdue Musical Organizations. Previously he was the Communications Specialist with PMO.

Laura Metzler (Simmons), B.A., is a Small Business Librarian at the Cecil County Public Library in Elkton, Md.

Diana Jimenez, B.A., married fellow Purdue alumnus Juan Camilo Guerrero (B.A.) in January in San Jose, Costa Rica. Jimenez just began working for UNICEF while Guerrero is with the United Nations.

Dan Harms, B.A., started the band Popple and since graduation in 2006 has been touring full time, putting on Acoustic Humor Rock concerts, fun youth retreats, and comedic inspirational talks to Christian youth and young adult groups. For the last two years he has performed almost 60 events per year, in 26 states and Mexico. This summer Popple is heading to France for a full summer tour.

Courtney Stephenson, B.A., in May 2009 is graduating from University of Notre Dame Law School.

Dorella M. Caras, B.A., continued her education after Purdue and graduated in December from the University of Indianapolis with a MBA degree. She was married in November 2007 to Matt Caras, who just returned from Iraq last December, after serving with other members of the 76th Infantry Division of the Indiana National Guard.

2007
Elizabeth Cuddy, B.A., hired as project manager for Epic Systems Corporation, a healthcare software company in Verona, Wisc.

Joshua Frye, Ph.D., has been named the recipient of the 2009 Academic Excellence Award for the Use of Instructional Technology. He is an assistant professor in the communication arts department at the State University College at Oneonta. The honor carries a $1,000 prize and other recognition.

2008
Rick Chapman, B.A., is in Downers Grove, Ill., working at My Surburban Life newspaper as an Advertising Account Executive selling ad space.

Brittany Fetzer, B.A., for the past six months has been working for the Walt Disney Company as an Advertising Sales Assistant for Disney-ABC Kids Networks in Chicago. She assists two account executives who do sales for Disney Channel, ABC Kids, and Toon Disney.

Heng (Sophia) Xu, M.A., was recently promoted to Project Manager for McKesson Corp. So far she has served as a business analyst, quality assurance analyst, consultant, and project manager.
