Buzzanell new ICA President

Patrice Buzzanell

Patrice Buzzanell, Professor, has been elected president of the International Communication Association.

According to the ICA Web site, the association "was formed in 1950, bringing together academicians and other professionals whose interest focused on human communication. The Association maintains an active membership of more than 3,400 individuals of which some two-thirds are teaching and conducting research in colleges, universities and schools around the world. Other members are in government, the media, communication technology, business law, medicine and other professions."

Buzzanell is president elect-select until the end of the May 2007 ICA conference in San Francisco. At that time, she becomes president-elect and will be in charge of the program for the 2008 Montreal conference.

In 2008, she will assume the title of president. The following three years, she will be on various committees, including the finance committee. In her sixth and final year, she will chair the finance committee.

Buzzanell joined the Purdue faculty in 1999. Her primary interest is organizational communication. Her specific interests center on feminist theorizing and the construction of gendered workplace identities, interactions, and structures, particularly as they relate to career processes and outcomes.

She has served as editor of Management Communication Quarterly; Chair of the Organizational Communication Division of ICA; President of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender; and Secretary for the Organizational Communication Division of NCA.
