About this Site
On the purpose of this site and why it isn't getting paid on commission
This site is intended to be a resource for anyone in Purdue's College of Liberal Arts who works with, or is interested in working with, the web content management system Serena Collage. The bulk of this site is devoted to reference materials and updates for those who use the system regularly, but there is also information for those who are considering Collage.
This site is not intended to be any kind of vehicle for pushing the use of Serena Collage across the board. Collage is a very powerful and flexible tool, and the benefits to using it are many and varied, but it may not, at least for the foreseeable future, be the right solution for everyone. Making the switch to Collage is not a project to be taken lightly, and regardless of who you are, it will certainly involve some big changes in the way you manage your Web content. The best way to avoid any surprises about those changes is for us to be forthright here, and give you all the information--both good and bad.
With that disclaimer, though, Collage is the preferred means of managing Web content for CLA, and it is gaining popularity among other Purdue colleges, departments and programs. Every day, we (in CLA and throughout Purdue) continue to make every effort to ensure that this software is as useful and flexible as it possibly can be.
So while this site is not intended to "sell you" on using Collage, we hope you will see the odd proviso or "yeah-but" statement not as a deterrent but as nothing more than an open issue that we are working to resolve.
Also, as you browse this site, keep in mind that everything here was generated by and is currently being managed through Collage. There is nothing here that couldn't be done on any Collage-based site. All you have to read the User Guides to find out how!
Lastly, note that this site was specifically written for the College of Liberal Arts and the templates and enhancements done for that environment. If you are coming to this site from outside CLA, you are welcome to peruse the offerings here, but be aware that most of it is only relevant for the specific CLA templates.
