My usual day to read the NY Times and anything else that strikes my fancy, but today I think I am going to do a bit of scholarly reading while sitting on the new non-smoky living room furniture. You heard it here first after months of waiting we have our first new, post fire furniture and our new home is beginning to feel like home. I am so inspired that I might even go out and replace the tv, coffee maker, and answering machine!! Who knows, I might even treat myself to a copy of The Sims: Bustin' Out (for research purposes of course). Oh yeah, maybe it's time to replace the microwave too. Anybody know the shelf life on microwave popcorn??

Because this is my blog about writing I thought this might be an interesting link. Technovelgy.com: Inventions from Science Fiction Books and Movies This week has gone to heck in a hand basket. I spent a lot of time doing classroom observations which really exhaust me so I haven't done much else. Tomorrow (really later today) is a day for waiting for deliveries and service so I will try to get some reading done before going to the gym in the afternoon.

I had a 7:30 teaching observation this morning. I am not a morning person, but was strangely awake by 8:30. Just got home and am waiting on the elusive service man who will be here between now and when hell freezes over. Now I have to decide, do I try to work (as loopy as I am) or do I take a nap and wake up (hopefully more lucid) and work. Mind you, I have had a grand total of 3 hours of sleep, which is not unusual of late but what is unusual is that I actually feel like I could go back to sleep. I think I just answered my own question, I'm taking a nap and waking up to make a real weekend type breakfast before buckling down to work and later back to campus for another teaching evaluation.

Yesterday was pretty much a bust. I was in need of some downtime so I took it. Been up since 5 this morning, updated Endnote on my desktop, surfed the web, ummmmmm...ok, so I spent 2 hours doing nothing and I'm ready to go back to bed. Doing more teaching observations this week. Need to leave home by 9:30 a.m., wondering if a nap is warranted and is it called a nap this early in the day? All of that aside, once I actually get my butt in gear I am going to read as well as do observations today.

Another weekend has officially past and I am preparing for bed. Tomorrow it is back to work. My writing time this week is going to be broken up by teaching observations over 3 days. This is not the best situation, but we'll see what happens. Tomorrow I am going to doo some reading and think about the layout of the race and technology project.

Just a quick update. I did survive the all-nighter. Now I am in the process of reading furiously through Devil in the White City in preparation for the B&C talk tomorrow night and doing classroom observations. I want to get through a good bit of the novel before the talk and then I can finish it before my book group discusses it on the 3rd. After a day or two of down time I'll also move back into the research and writing mode. :-)

Went to bed at about midnight after watching the game, back up at 2 and ready to finish off this article and get some shut eye or at least have a generally unproductive day because I am otherwise brain dead. Coffee is brewing and brain is working. 6:33 a.m. update Wow, I have more to say than I thought I did. I am still working on this piece and beginning to wondering if I am adding too much. I may simply be forced to stop myself at some point. I'd rather have to much and have to edit some out than to have too little and look like a slacker :-) 7:20 a.m. update Fading fast. Just about done. On my 3rd travel mug of coffee. Almost fell asleep waiting for endnote to retrieve sources. *sigh* The end is in sight. 8:23 a.m. update Finished with 37 minutes to spare!! No all I have to do is send it off. Then I am off to bed with a book. With my luck the 3 massive mugs of coffee that I have had in the last 6 hours will finally kick in and I'll be wide awake!

I am awake, wide awake. So awake that the bathroom light didn't even hurt my eyes. Wondering if it is the looming deadlines that woke me up so early and so fully on a Sunday. Today I am breaking my own rule about working on a Sunday. This is the day that is usually reserved for the New York Times and CSPAN2's BookTV , but today is different. Today I have to get a proposal in for the Watson Conference in October and finish the writing queer identity online stuff. These are the only 2 things that I want to work on today. If I finish them early then I can focus on the Times and some pleasure reading. 12:38 p.m. update I almost have the proposal for the Watson Conference done. I'm proposing a piece of the invisible labor of teaching with and mentoring others to teach with technology that is aimed at WPAs and administrators. I know that this is a touchy subject and might be seen by some as airing dirty laundry (which it isn't because the same thing goes on everywhere), but I'm not very good at the political dance. After this I might have a little lunch, play some canasta online, and then move on the the looming deadline article. God forbid I have to pull an all-nighter!!! 1:25 p.m. update Proposal is done and it goes a little something like this (it's a PDF file). 8:45 p.m. update I've gotten some work done on the article, but it's not done. The All-Star game is coming on so I am going to take a break and pull an all-nighter if necessary.

Where was I? Well Thursday was a teaching day and then there was Books and Coffee and the reception that followed. Friday was a pretty good day. I spent 4 hours at Starbucks (with no wireless access) so that I caould work on an article that I need to send in on Monday. I needed access free time, but I still ended up sending email from my snazzy new cell phone :-( Today is V-Day and I am going to spend some Q-Time with the partner type person and see if I can sneak in some writing time.

It's all writin', it's all good, that's my new motto. So far today I have: 1. made one hell of a breakfast 2. sent off paperwork so that I can replace fire damaged stuff 3. Speced out a server 4. written a blurb about the importance of blogs in the classroom to garner cash for the abovementioned server and 5. sent a whole lotta damned email Now it's time to get to the work of writing.

As my mother always said, another day, another dollar. Slow moving today. I think I'm coming down with a cold, either that or my allergies are hitting hard early this year. I've got some professional kinds stuff to do at the office today, some manuscripts to print, and much coffee to drink. My plan is to finish that stuff up within 2 hours tops and then head over to the coffee shop to work for a while. Let's see how that goes.

The weekend is over and its time to get back to it. I did work on the C&C article a little on Saturday, but relaxed for the most part. Been up since 6:30, a little better, but have spent the day so far playing catch up with email and promises of links. Now I am going to do a little (re)reading for something I wanna add to the C&W piece. My goal is to have a draft of this piece shipped off by the end of the week. I've had a pot of coffee, but I am beginning to feel like I could use a nap. I may nap for an hour in a bit.

That's it, I did it. I sent the last two chapters out into the world alone. Now we wait, and wait, and wait.

All right I am going to do it. I have spent an hour and a half catching up with email and playing with my new cell phone that arrived yesterday, but now I am going to make a monster pot of coffee grab something quick for breakfast and read through those last 2 chapters so that I can send them on their way.

Yep, it's back. The early morning monster is back. I have been wide awake since 4:30 a.m. That is after going to sleep at 1:30 a.m. This is even earlier than the 5:00 a.m. monster of old. In the hour that I have been awake I have actually done another draft of my cv for annual review. The lack of sleep might have something to do with the fact that annual review documents are due today and I woke up realizing that I left 2 publications off!! Not sure if I am going to try to go back to sleep for a couple of hours or if I am just going to give in to the madness, make a pot of coffee, and do some work.

Today was a bit of a blow off day. I pushed papers around and read snipets of stuff but got no real work done. I have meetings tomorrow, but I am going to try to keep them short and sweet so that I can get home and do a final read of these last 2 chapters so that I can finally get it off of my plate and move on to the queer identity collaborative piece and doing some reading for another larger project. Does it ever end???

Almost there. I just finished making edits on the 5th chapter. That means I need to print out and read it and chapter 4 again before I send it off into the unknown. This is the scary part. As long as its not done I can blame it on circumstances, after its done there's no one to blame except me! EEEEEEKKKKKK!!!!

It's hard to have a personal/social life and be an academic! After last night's super bowl festivities I slept late this morning and have been dragging ever since. Finishing up lunch and what is sure to be the first of many pots of coffee for the day I am about to begin the work of writing!!

I just remembered that I set up a live feed of the cam way back when, so its always been there just never publicized, at least not since the move to IN. So I added a link to it. I've spent the day reading the NY Times, drinking coffee, and playing with the dog. All of this is build up to the Super Bowl (non-caps, non-bold because none of my favorites are playing :-( ) C'est La Vie.
