Write Of Way

Written Musings on Writing

Sunday, December 29, 2002
This week I finished revamping my website and completed the building and revision of the Computers and Composition Resource that Meredith and I have been working on for 2 long years! I will of course post when we do the grand unveiling of the finished product!
With a week of web building I found that I had little time for other work. I often rewarded myself by playing the new Maxis Game
The Sims Online . I keep telling myself that this is research, there is so much about the makeup of Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) that begs to be written about especially in the realm of (re)writing identity and the computerized classroom. So let's chalk it up to research and I can have some fun at the same time :-)

Stalking is bad! Even in cyberspace. UK man sentanced to 2 years for sending thousands of emails, faxes, etc. Cyber-stalker banged up for two years

Finished up the review and sent it off a couple of days ago! Since then I have been on a holiday hiatus only taking time to revamp my academic website. Went to see LoTR last night and I absolutely loved it! I plan to get back to work the day after Christmas. Until then I am planning on some quality time with a couple of good books! Happy holidays!

Took the day off yesterday and fiddled around with a book prospectus today. Eveything was going just fine until I realized that I am under an already super extended deadline for a book review that is due this week!! Damn, how do I forget these things?? So the next day or so (or however long it takes) will be spent writing a book review!

All corrections made, ready to focus on reading the (hopefully) new and exciting book that I found on Garvey.

WooHoo! Finished the first round of edits of chapter 3 (on paper at least)! Gonna enter them, print the new chapter (gives me a sense of accomplishment), and finish reading the other book that I may use in this revision.
I probably won't get all of this done tonight as I have to do a book reading for the kiddies (not my book or my kids for what it's worth). :-)

Ok, so yesterday was a total blow off day. I did none of my own work and now the guilt kicks in :-(
My goal for the day is to finish reading the the chapter that I started 2 days ago and to get the edits done and entered into the Word file. At that point I want to keep/finish reading the new Garvey book that I got for the next round of edits. I am getting excited because this is the last chapter that I am going to work on before I send stuff off to prospective publishers. I am hoping that showing them 3 "finished" chapters rather than the normally required 2 will make them look more favorably at the project.
Ok, so I'm really just stalling because I'm not ready for the flood of rejection letters!!!

Ok, I'm not sure if sports has sunk to an all time low or not, but airing high school basketball on ESPN is an intersting phenomenon.

Hi, my name is Samantha and I am a sports junkie! I am taking a writing break to watch LeBron James play basketball. This kid is truly incredible!

Hmmmm, it's 3:55 and the only thing that I have done so far today is to finish the 102C syllabus for my mentor group's courses next semester. I plan to at least finish editing the chapter that I was working on yesterday. Update later.

Finished editing 2/3 of the third chapter of my manuscript today. Used a whole packet of post it flags marking areas that need to be editing in the document file. Wow, that seems like a lot but I feel like I have accomplished something! I have spent the last 2 hours listening to CDs and trying to figure out how to get the blogamp plug-in for Winamp to work so that I can have a current list of songs that I am listening to displayed here. Useless, right? Right! But I need something to waste some time since I can't actually go anywhere with a broken toe and all. Oh well, enough for tonight I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Should I really be writing if Dick Cheney is building bunkers, or escape tunnels, or whatevr in his house??

I wonder what would happen if I incorporated IM lingo into my manuscript and submitted it? We talk about new and developing literacies all of the time, but I think that this takes it a bit too far!

Ah, the things that we do when we are supposed to be editing a chapter!

I finally took the plunge and decided to turn to blogger software! Maybe now I can keep my writing journal more current. You can still see past posts by clicking the link at the right.

As for my writing, things were slow this semester because of the incredible amount of committee work that I found myself doing during my semester "off"! I did manage to get 3 chapters edited and ready to go. Thanks to a clumsy moment last week I find myself with a broken toe and time to work on another chapter. Since there will be no travel for me this holiday season I plan to work on my other chapters and finish up my book prospectus so that I can start sending materials off to publishers. Wish me luck!
