Jazz great Nina Simone died in her Paris home on Monday. Simone's music has long been an inspiration to me. Her raspy, beautiful voice has calmed me at times when nothing else could.

The Seatlle Times tells us something that should come as no big surprise. The academy exclusionary?
Only 3 percent of the freshmen at the 146 most selective colleges and universities come from families in the bottom quarter of Americans ranked by income. About 12 percent of the students on those campuses are black or Hispanic.

As the semester (and the technology workshops) start to wind down Meredith Z. and I are going to revisit technologies that we covered briefly so far this term. We are going to look at MOOs and do some in-depth MOOing this week!

Tuesday, April 08, 2003:
Obviously I wasn't the only one disturbed by Benetton's decision to track inventory through chips. They have now made an announcement that they won't be using the "inventory chips" at this time because of customer concerns about privacy. They do, however, reserve the right to use them at a later date.
