Candidacy
Admission to a graduate program does not constitute admission to candidacy for an advanced degree. A student becomes a candidate for the Master of Science degree upon approval of the student's Plan of Study by the Advisory Committee, the department's Director of Graduate Studies and the Dean of the Graduate School. A student becomes a candidate for the PhD upon satisfactory completion of the PhD preliminary examination.
