Core Courses
The MS degree in anthropology requires a minimum of 36 hours of graduate-level courses beyond the Bachelor's degree, including the following course requirements:
Anthropology 504 - Problems in World Prehistory
Anthropology 505 - Culture and Society
Anthropology 506 - The Development of Modern Anthropology
Anthropology 507 - Theory in Sociocultural Anthropology
Anthropology 514 - Anthropological Linguistics
Anthropology 535 - Foundations of Biological Anthropology
At the time of admission, the anthropology faculty will specify which of the core courses, if any, may be waived based on prior graduate coursework. Waivers must be replaced by other courses beyond the Bachelor's degree. The student must write a Master's thesis which can fulfill up to 9 hours of the required 36 hours of course work. It will be up to the student (in conjunction with his/her committee) to decide on the credit-hour value of the Master's thesis.
