Brian Kelly received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2006 and joined the faculty at Purdue University in 2006.

Professor Kelly has authored or co-authored publications in several social science and public health journals including, the American Journal of Public Health, Substance Use & Misuse, the Journal of Urban Health, Addictive Behaviors, and the Journal of Drug Issues. He also recently authored book chapters in volumes on 21st Century Marijuana Use and on Drugs, Club, and Young People. His topical areas of research interest include drug use, sexual health, and comparative youth cultures. He is currently working on a book Reasoning Risk: The Subcultural Logic of Clubs, Drugs, and Late-Modern Youth, which explores social, structural, and subcultural factors shaping the ways in which youth experience and act on risk in their lives. The foci of his current research projects include work on drug use among NYC-area youth, drug dealing among suburban youth, and the integration of the concepts of social capital and class.
