Eligibility for the College of Liberal Arts Honors Program

To register for an Honors Course:

Incoming First Semester Student

  • Either have an SAT score (verbal, written, and math) of at least 1800, or an ACT composite score of at least 26.
  • Or be ranked in the top 10% of your high school class.

Current or Transferring Student

  • If you are currently a Purdue student or are transferring into Purdue from another university, you must have a cumulative grade point of 3.0/4.0 or have the permission of the Liberal Arts Honors director.

To Apply to the Honors Program:

  • Students must have completed one full semester at Purdue West Lafayette campus with a cumulative GPA of 3.3/4.0 or better.
  • Students must be enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts.

To Graduate with College Honors:

  • Students must complete 24 credit hours of Honors with a B or better in each honors course. (Students who study abroad one full year are only required to complete 21 credit hours of Honors work.)
  • Students' course selection must fit the following distribution. (Courses may be listed more than once when they fit into more than one category, however the credit hours can only be counted once.)
  • Students must complete Honors courses in at least 3 departments.
  • Students must complete at least 9 hours total as follows: 3 Honors credit hours in courses at the 300 level or above and 6 Honors credit hours in courses at the 400 level or above.
  • Students must complete at least 12 Honors credit hours outside their majors (up to 12 hours may be outside the College of Liberal Arts with the approval of the Director of the Honors Program).
  • The final cumulative graduating GPA must be 3.3/4.0 or better to graduate with Full Honors from the College of Liberal Arts.
