Undergraduate Program

Mission Statement

"In a liberal arts setting, the Theatre Division at Purdue University educates students to acquire the discipline, analytical skills, and aesthetic judgement necessary for collaboration with others as productive citizens and artists."

Program Objective

Theatre is the most collaborative of all art forms, incorporating aspects of music, dance, and visual art. Theatre requires us to create an imaginary world on stage—a world that calls us to explore the human condition, provoking us to better understand ourselves and our society.

Students learn from faculty who are award winning teachers and professionals in their fields, in an environment that teams a world-class university with an ethnically/culturally rich student body.

In addition to obtaining a well-rounded Liberal Arts education, theatre majors at Purdue are prepared to compete for entry into graduate programs or pursue a professional career. We offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in:

  • Theatre (encompassing all areas)
  • Acting
  • Design & Production

Theatre students are expected to be active members of our production community. In this laboratory setting, students not only apply information and ideas learned in classes, but also learn the critical lessons of responsibility, commitment, and cooperation, all crucial skills for survival in our 21st century world.
