MASTER OF FINE ARTS (M.F.A.) IN DIRECTING

MORE INFORMATION COMING SOON!!!

In the fall of 2010, Purdue University Theatre will introduce a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program in Directing For The Theatre headed by distinguished international director and educator, Gordon McCall.

Currently Associate Professor of Theatre and Head of Directing at Purdue, Mr. McCall, in addition to his dedicated involvement in teaching, continues his celebrated career as a director, actor and artistic director in Canada, Ireland, Australia and the United States. He is the founding or first Artistic Director of several major Canadian theatre companies and has directed over 150 professional productions in theatres around the world.

Throughout his career he has taught directing and acting at several institutions of higher learning, including The National Theatre School of Canada, Queen’s University and Simon Fraser University, Canada and The University of Melbourne and Monash University, Australia. Most recently, Mr. McCall completed a highly successful tenure of ten years as Artistic/Executive Director of Centaur Theatre Company, Montreal.

The Purdue MFA in Directing will focus on a combination of theory and practice that will emphasize strong fundamentals, freedom of the imagination inspired by sound structural analysis, the investigation of important directors from around the world, and practical application of gained knowledge in several department productions.
